“…..I am making a way in the wilderness…..” (Isaiah 43:18-19)

This past weekend I was driving the back roads of northern Arizona with one of my sons. We wondered whether the road would be passable or would have trees blocking the way. As we drove along, we could tell that some of the trees had been recently cleared. I even commented to my son that the tree we had just passed must have been cut and moved recently, because I could smell the freshness of the cut wood.

Shortly we came to a tree that was blocking the road. In front of us were two cars, also stopped, but filled with people who were well equipped with a chain saw and winch! They had been the ones clearing the road before us!

In a very short time the tree was no longer blocking the way and our three vehicles went on. They kept us in view, guiding us around other obstacles and through muddy waters.

That night, I reflected on what had happened. God had truly provided these “angels” to go before us and clear the way. Had they not been there, we would have had to turn around and drive back the 20 miles we had just driven (over not so great roads).

I believe God was showing me that He truly is with me and making a way through my wilderness. The path I’m on is much like the road we drove….not easy; in fact, very difficult in places.

And since He is with me, He is with you too; going before you on your difficult journey, and clearing the way bit by bit.  (Isaiah 43:1-2)

May you see glimpses of Him today, as I saw on Sunday.

Whispers From the Father

Whispers From the Father

My Dear Child~

I ask you, are there idols in your life?  Idols can take many forms: status, money, power, sex, cars, jewelry, houses, vacations, hobbies, technology or a person. It’s fine, My Child, if you want some of these things. But if your desire for them consumes you or pushes Me or others out of your life, then that isn’t good.

Take a moment and assess your life.  If you feel there is something that is taking your time away from that which is most important (loving Me and loving others)  then it’s time to make some changes. I can help you.

You see, I want you to have an abundant life, and I came to give you that. (John 10:10) Only I can satisfy you and fulfill your needs. Things will never satisfy you. (Isaiah 58:11) That is why I want you to think about what you are pursuing and why.

When you turn towards Me and seek Me, you will always find Me. (Deuteronomy 4:29) Because, believe it or not, I am always seeking you.  (Luke 15)

Turn from the idols in your life to Me and keep My commandments (which by the way can be condensed down to Love Me and Love Others). (Matthew 22:34-40)

When you turn to Me, I will shower you with love…..a love that goes on forever. (Deuteronomy 5:10) And that is much better than what any idol can ever give you!

My Dear Child~

I know that you are wondering which path to take. I want to assure you that I go ahead of you and I will show you the way to go.  Just as I led the Israelites with a cloud in the day and a fire by night, I will lead you. (Deuteronomy 1:33)

Listen carefully to My voice and I will direct you. (Isaiah 30:19-21).

Don’t think, for even one moment, that I am unconcerned. My goal is to lead you safely through all of life’s challenges.  And, if necessary, I will even carry you. (Deuteronomy 1:31)

Do not be anxious, do not be concerned, just quiet yourself and listen. I will lead and guide you.

My Child~

When you are upset due to a circumstance or person, take a few minutes and remove yourself either physically or mentally from the situation. Come to Me and let me clear your mind and calm your emotions.

Know that I am in sovereign control of all circumstances. (2 Chronicles 20:5-6) In the end, all things will work together for good.  (Romans 8:28) Be at rest knowing that I am very aware of what is happening to you and I will see you through the situation. (Isaiah 43:2)

If a person is causing you distress, take some time to calmly and lovingly ask him or her some questions. Seek to understand where they are coming from. As you seek to understand them, they may try to understand you. No matter how they treat you, do your best to live in peace with them. (Romans 12:18) Let your actions be motivated by love. Even if you don’t love them, or like how they treated you, they are My child, and I love them. I want you to show them love because all people need love. It is when they act poorly that they need My love the most.

My Child, I am with you at all times, especially when you are upset and hurting. Come and cry to Me. I see all your tears and they are precious to Me (Psalm 56:8).

I will calm you and give you My Peace. (Zephaniah 3:17, John 14:27)

My Child~

I see that you are fearful and worried. I see you sitting there with tears in your eyes.

Can I tell you something? Do not be worried or afraid.

I will make you strong.

I will help you.

I will take good care of you.

My hand is reaching out towards you. It is there. It is taking your hand now.

I will walk you through the problem.

Hear Me whisper to you, “Do not be afraid, I will help you.”

I am your Father and your God.

I will make the path clear for you. Trust Me.

Europe 2013 Tina 059My Child~

You want love, joy and peace in your life, right? Guess what? I can impart all these things to you if you will let Me. If you allow My Spirit to work within you, you will experience more love, joy and peace. You don’t have to work hard to experience them; you just have to cooperate with Me to allow them in your life!  (Galatians 5:22-23)

First, and above all, you need to know that I love you. No matter what you’ve done, no matter if you love Me or hate Me, I love you. (Ephesians 3:18-19, Romans 5:8)

As you experience My love, you can begin to walk in love and share love with others. You will be happier and so will they.

Open the door for the woman pushing the walker. Pick up the jar of mayonnaise that just fell on the grocery shopper’s toe. Make a favorite meal for your family. As you walk in love you will know Me more for I am Love. (1 John 4:8)

As you realize that I love you, you will have joy. And that joy will bring you strength.  (Nehemiah 8:9-10) Have you noticed how negative emotions sap your energy and strength? Don’t focus on negative thoughts, focus on positive ones! Walking in joy instead of negativity will increase your strength. Try it! Spread happiness and cheer wherever you go and you will notice a new light in your eyes and a bounce in your step!

If you want peace in your life, you can take it from Me; for free. You do not need to be troubled or afraid. (John 14:27) Isn’t that wonderful? There is no need to toss and turn on your bed at night. Turn to Me and realize that I care for you more than you can imagine and I will always be there for you.

Come to Me now. Allow Me to love you. Feel My love surround you and wash over you. Feel your sadness turn to joy and your anxiety turn to peace. Just experience Me. Know that I am with you, loving you, holding you, caring for you and guiding you. Get quiet for just a moment and experience ME. Then, after you have spent time with Me, go out and walk in My love, My joy and My peace. I am always with you.  (Isaiah 41:10)

My Child~

How I want to protect you! Like a mother bird who looks after her babies I want to gather you under my wings so you can feel My love, comfort and protection. I want to shelter you from all harm and danger.  (Matthew 23:37) Let Me be your protection! Let Me be your shelter and your provider!

As you looked in on the babies in their nest you saw how vulnerable they were. You are vulnerable too, My Child. Without Me to guide and protect you, you can find yourself in all kinds of danger.

Did you hear the mother bird chirping loudly as you looked in her nest? She was sounding the alarm that danger was near. She was concerned for her babies. The same is true of our relationship. When I see danger approaching you, or you getting too close to things that could hurt you, I sound the alarm. You may hear Me in the small voice inside of you. You may hear My advice through the words of a friend, the words of a song, a pastor, or through My Word, the Bible. Listen to Me! I am guiding you for your good!

My Child, I care for you just as a mother bird cares for her babies. I love you so very much. Never forget that. And even if you can’t see or feel me, like the baby birds whose mother is out looking for food, you can hear My voice. For I am with you always. (Isaiah 41:10, Deuteronomy 31:6)

Hiking to Deer Creek Falls, Grand Canyon National Park

Hiking to Deer Creek Falls, Grand Canyon National Park

Sometimes life doesn’t go as we would like and we find ourselves in situations that we would rather not be in. And those situations can last a long, long time.

I felt God telling me the following as I watched my family leave for a hike in the Grand Canyon….something that I used to be able to do, did all the time and now really miss being able to do.

May the following words bless you if you find yourself on a different path than you used to be on.

My Dear Child~

You wonder why you can’t do the things you used to do. You see others doing what you want to do. They are heading down a path that you used to be on and you aren’t on it any longer. I can see that you are sad and discouraged. You wonder if you will ever go down that path again.

May I say to you that your path is not their path.

If you pause and assess the situation, you will see that you have trained others so they can take over what you used to do. You have passed on the torch to others and they are carrying it well. And even though you want to be part of what they are doing, I want you to be doing something else.

Asking why something has happened may not help you as My ways are not your ways and you won’t always understand why I allow what I allow. (Isaiah 55:8-9)

Instead of asking “Why?” ask “What?” What can you be doing to help others given your current circumstances? Another question to ask is similar: “How can you bring glory to God now?”

You are a unique individual. There is no one like you, there never has been anyone like you, and there will never be anyone like you. (Psalm 139:13-16) So, if your path has changed, that is because I need your abilities in a different area. Sit back, take a look inside at what makes you tick, take a look at your circumstances and apply what you’ve been gifted with to help others and bring glory to Me.

If you are confused then talk to Me. I love it when you spend time with Me. I will clarify what it is that you need to know. (1 John 5:14-15) Consider Job, who had many questions during his trials, I heard him and responded. (Job 38-41)

Take heart, My Child. While your path may have changed, your usefulness has not. Your talents are most certainly needed. But they are not needed (at least at this time) on the path you used to be on. They are needed in a different area. So, stop looking where you used to be and take a moment and assess where you are. Then, don’t ask “Why?” but ask “What can I be doing given my current circumstances?” and  ask “How can I bring glory to God?”

And I will answer.

My Child~

You wonder if I hear your prayers. You wonder if I see your struggles. You wonder if I am involved in your life. The answer to all of your questions is YES! I hear your cries and I see your struggles. I am near and I am involved in your life. (Exodus 3:7, Psalm 34:6)

When you needed to speak with someone and you ran into her at the grocery store….that was Me arranging that encounter.

When the gardener that you had been meaning to call showed up across the street to rake your neighbor’s yard…that was Me also.

These small “coincidences” are a reminder to you that I am involved in your life……in the big things and the small things.

When the bible study that you were going through asked in chapter 1 for you to write down questions and ideas that you wanted Me to clarify, and 4 weeks later you were slammed with the answer, and the next day you were asked in the study book if I had clarified the answer for you….yes that was Me too.

You see, not only did I give you the answer loud and clear on Tuesday, I wanted to make sure you understood that was Me talking…hence the follow up question in your bible study book on Wednesday. Who else could time the follow up question so perfectly but Me?

I may take longer to act than you prefer. And My ways may not be what you desire either (they can involve more pain than you would like). How I accomplish things may not be in the same manner that you would do them. That is OK. My ways are not like your ways. (Isaiah 55:8-9)

And in those times when the answers aren’t all that clear, know that I am nearby. I am guiding you. Take a small step if you are unsure and I will let you know if you are headed in the right direction.

I love you My Child, and I am involved in your life. Never forget that. I know that what you are going through is tedious and unpleasant but lean into Me, talk to Me about it, and I will help you through it. I am, after all your Father and I know what you need before you even ask Me. (Matthew 6:8)

My Dear Child~

I know that you are hurting now. Things look very bleak, life doesn’t seem fair, and you have no desire or strength to go on. Just persevere for a little while longer. Often hard times precede good times.

Let Me show you a few examples from My Word:

Joseph was sold as a slave by his brothers and wound up in prison (for years) in Egypt. Eventually he became second in command to Pharaoh and saved many lives.  (Genesis 50:19-20)

David was looked down upon by his family. Though he did nothing wrong, he had to live in caves because King Saul wanted to kill him.  David eventually became king over all of Israel. (2 Samuel 5:1-5)

Moses had to flee after murdering an Egyptian and spent 40 years tending livestock in the wilderness. He was later used to free the Israelites from Egyptian slavery. (Exodus 12:31-41)

Esther was an orphan but she was chosen to be queen to King Xerxes. Her uncle suggested that her royal position should be used to spare the Jews from destruction. Esther bravely decided to approach the King on behalf of her people.  (Esther 4:12-16) The Jews were spared because of her bravery.

Job was a righteous man (Job1:8) yet he lost his children, his livestock and his health through no fault of his own. Later, Job received many blessings. (Job 42:12-13)

Finally, consider My Son Jesus. Although innocent, He was beaten and left to die a cruel death upon a cross. But that was not the end. He rose again! His death paid for everyone’s sin so that people could have a relationship with Me. (1 John 2:1-2)

What seems bleak, unfair, or the end, may be the means through which I will help many people. And you may be part of that grander plan. So, hang in there My Child. Keep persevering. A brighter day, a day when you will understand the reason for the difficult times, a Resurrection kind of day may be just around the corner!

Oh, and in case you are wondering where I am during those hard times….I am right beside you.  (Isaiah 43:2) (Daniel 3:19-27)
