Whispers from the Father

My Child~

Please stop dwelling on the past. Thinking about the past will not allow you to move forward and that is what I want……for you to live in the present.

So you made a mistake. Guess what? So do all My Children. Let it go! No parent wants their child dwelling on their errors. You talked with Me about it; you learned from it; so move on!

Someone treated you poorly? Discuss it with them if you can and leave the rest with Me. I will bring good out of your pain.

Don’t keep looking behind you. Don’t live in the past. Don’t beat yourself up over your mistakes. Don’t dwell on your hurts. Don’t use the past as an excuse to stay stuck where you are.

I have forgiven your past mistakes and taken your sin from you. (Psalm 103:12) I will deal with those who have hurt you. (Romans 12:19) I will make all things work together for good.  (Romans 8:28)

I want you to live in the present. I want you to focus on loving others and doing the best you can now, for Me and for My glory. I want you happy. I want you free. I want you living an abundant life. (John 10:10)

So stop looking behind you and concentrate on the present moment. There is a whole wide world waiting for you to embrace. But you need to be free of the past to fully embrace the present.

Are you with Me? I am with you!! Let it Go and let’s move forward!!!

“This is the day which the Lord has made; Let us be glad and rejoice in it.” (Psalm 118:24)

“Brothers and sisters, I know that I still have a long way to go. But there is one thing I do: I forget what is in the past and try as hard as I can to reach the goal before me. I keep running hard toward the finish line to get the prize that is mine because God has called me through Christ Jesus to life up there in heaven.”   (Philippians 3: 13-14)

March 2014 117“And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.”  Romans 8:28

It’s hard, really hard, to go through tough times. It doesn’t seem fair, and even though we know that life isn’t fair, we want it to be fair.

We want answers to the “whys” in life.  Why did I lose my health, my child, my spouse, my marriage, my job, my home, my ______ (fill in the blank). Why?

In tough times I have to cling to the truth that God is good. And that He allows things to happen for His purposes…..which I may not understand immediately. Or I may not understand until weeks later. Or months later. Or years later. Or maybe not until heaven.

During the tough times I choose to trust; otherwise I would be cranky, angry or maybe even depressed.

I am fortunate that today I understand why I experienced a horrible ordeal in December.  Going through that situation was very upsetting and even frightening. But now that I see the bigger picture, I am grateful that I went through it, because others will benefit.

A woman shared recently in a bible study that circumstances in our life are like puzzle pieces. When we look at one piece, it doesn’t make sense by itself and it may even appear ugly. But as the puzzle is assembled, a beautiful picture unfolds.

All things do work together for good, and whether I see that goodness tomorrow or 10,000 tomorrows from now shouldn’t matter to me.

What matters is I know God can be trusted. And so I choose to trust. (Psalm 9:10Job 13:15)

In His way and in His timing, He will let me see the big (finished) picture. And it will be beautiful.

“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”

Jesus replied: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”   Matthew 22:36-40

Jesus boils it down for us: Love God, love ourselves, and love others.

Do I love God? Yes. I love the creation He made for us to enjoy: the sunrises, sunsets, starry skies, mountains, and oceans. And as I get to know Him through reading the Bible, I see that He is a God that loves us immensely and cares a great deal for people; especially the poor and vulnerable among us. (John 3:16Romans 5:8, Leviticus 19: 9-10, James 1:27) How could I not love a God like that?

Do I love myself? I try to. It is so much easier to love and accept myself when I know that God loves and accepts me. If He accepts and loves me, (problems, mistakes and all) surely I can learn to accept and love myself.

Finally, and this is the biggie for me…..Do I love others? I mean, really love others? Do I take the time to acknowledge and talk to people? Do I smile at them, make eye contact, and try to brighten their day? Or am I too busy going about what I consider to be important?

My challenge is to ask myself after every interaction, “Did I show love to that person? Is their day brighter because of me?”

I want to be able to answer “Yes” to both questions. Because, in the end, love is all that matters. (1 Corinthians 13)

“If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men.” Romans 12:18

I love this verse, because it puts the responsibility for peace on us, but only to the extent that we have control over the problem.

We are not responsible for how someone else thinks or acts (unless, of course they are our child…then we better take some responsibility! 🙂 )

When we get dumped on, accused of wrong doing, maligned, or otherwise find ourselves in an unpleasant, strife filled circumstance with another person we can do something. We are supposed to do something.  We are to seek peace.

If we have done something wrong, we can admit it, apologize for it, and ask for forgiveness. If we don’t understand the situation, we can try to clarify the issue and seek resolution. We can aim to solve the problem peacefully.

But we can only do so much. We can only resolve the problem as far as we are responsible. If we have done what we can and the other person still wants to be argumentative or live in strife, that is out of our control. That is their issue.

When we have done what is possible, when we have done what depends on us to do, when we have tried to live at peace with others, when we have done all that, we can rest in God’s peace, knowing we have done our best. He will take the problem (if one still remains) into His own hands.  And since He is now taking care of it, we must leave it with Him and move forward.  (Philippians 3: 13-14)

We are to be at peace.

My Child~

When you are upset due to a circumstance or person, take a few minutes and remove yourself either physically or mentally from the situation. Come to Me and let me clear your mind and calm your emotions.

Know that I am in sovereign control of all circumstances. (2 Chronicles 20:5-6) In the end, all things will work together for good.  (Romans 8:28) Be at rest knowing that I am very aware of what is happening to you and I will see you through the situation. (Isaiah 43:2)

If a person is causing you distress, take some time to calmly and lovingly ask him or her some questions. Seek to understand where they are coming from. As you seek to understand them, they may try to understand you. No matter how they treat you, do your best to live in peace with them. (Romans 12:18) Let your actions be motivated by love. Even if you don’t love them, or like how they treated you, they are My child, and I love them. I want you to show them love because all people need love. It is when they act poorly that they need My love the most.

My Child, I am with you at all times, especially when you are upset and hurting. Come and cry to Me. I see all your tears and they are precious to Me (Psalm 56:8).

I will calm you and give you My Peace. (Zephaniah 3:17, John 14:27)

Europe 2013 Tina 059My Child~

You want love, joy and peace in your life, right? Guess what? I can impart all these things to you if you will let Me. If you allow My Spirit to work within you, you will experience more love, joy and peace. You don’t have to work hard to experience them; you just have to cooperate with Me to allow them in your life!  (Galatians 5:22-23)

First, and above all, you need to know that I love you. No matter what you’ve done, no matter if you love Me or hate Me, I love you. (Ephesians 3:18-19, Romans 5:8)

As you experience My love, you can begin to walk in love and share love with others. You will be happier and so will they.

Open the door for the woman pushing the walker. Pick up the jar of mayonnaise that just fell on the grocery shopper’s toe. Make a favorite meal for your family. As you walk in love you will know Me more for I am Love. (1 John 4:8)

As you realize that I love you, you will have joy. And that joy will bring you strength.  (Nehemiah 8:9-10) Have you noticed how negative emotions sap your energy and strength? Don’t focus on negative thoughts, focus on positive ones! Walking in joy instead of negativity will increase your strength. Try it! Spread happiness and cheer wherever you go and you will notice a new light in your eyes and a bounce in your step!

If you want peace in your life, you can take it from Me; for free. You do not need to be troubled or afraid. (John 14:27) Isn’t that wonderful? There is no need to toss and turn on your bed at night. Turn to Me and realize that I care for you more than you can imagine and I will always be there for you.

Come to Me now. Allow Me to love you. Feel My love surround you and wash over you. Feel your sadness turn to joy and your anxiety turn to peace. Just experience Me. Know that I am with you, loving you, holding you, caring for you and guiding you. Get quiet for just a moment and experience ME. Then, after you have spent time with Me, go out and walk in My love, My joy and My peace. I am always with you.  (Isaiah 41:10)

While pondering what God thinks of our blunders, I heard the song En La Cruz. The words of the song spoke to me. “Senor conoces mi corazon. Aun cuando te fallo, se que me amas.”   (Lord, you know my heart. Even when I fail you, I know you love me.) Here is the English version of the song.  I hope you enjoy listening to the song and reading the devotion.

My Child~

I see what’s in your heart and I know all about you. (Psalm 139:1) I know that your intentions were good and you tried to do what was right, but it didn’t quite turn out the best. I understand and I love you even when you mess up.  Please don’t dwell on those mistakes. I know you were caught off-guard by the circumstances. Come to Me and let Me help you learn from the situation so you can move forward.  Lean into Me the next time you find yourself in an awkward place and I will hold you close and  guide you. (Psalm 139:7-10)

I already paid for your mistakes.  I “tore the veil.”  (Matthew 27:45-54) I made a way and now nothing can separate you from My love. Nothing. (Romans 8:38-39)  Even when your intentions are not the best, and you deliberately choose to walk away from My ways, I am seeking after you. (Luke 15)

Let’s move forward and leave the blunders behind. And while we are at it, let’s leave other’s blunders behind too.  (Proverbs 17:9)

My Dear Child~

You wonder if I love you.  The answer is YES!! I am love, did you know that? I love you so much that I sent My Son into the world for you.  (1 John 4:9-10) You see, sin separates us.  (Isaiah 59:2) If you are separated from Me, then your life is not the fullest and the best that it can be.  I want you to have the most abundant life possible!  (John 10:9-10)

While you were still doing wrong, when you didn’t know Me or care about My ways, I was seeking you.  I am always searching for My Children who stray.  I want them back with Me. (Luke 15:1-10)

My Child, seek to understand and be rooted in this love of Mine. It is there that you will find your security and have the proper foundation to live your life.  Dwell on how broad, long, high and deep the love of Christ is for you. When you are filled with Christ’s love you are filled with Me, since I am love. (Ephesians 3:17-19).

You may think that you are unworthy of My love or that you have done too many wrong things to be accepted by Me.  That is simply not true.  Moses was a murderer, David was an adulterer and a murderer, Abraham was a liar, Noah got drunk, Jacob was a deceiver, Jonah was disobedient, Sarah had unbelief and Rahab was a prostitute.  Yet all these people, and many more were forgiven and used by Me.  You are never beyond My love and My forgiveness.

It is never to late to return to Us.  One thief waited until he was dying to turn to My Son and he was welcomed home.  (Luke 23:32-43)

Our love for you is constant and unending.  Accept Our love. Accept Jesus’ sacrifice on your behalf and come home to Us. We are waiting for you with open arms.  (Luke 15:11-32) Come sooner rather than later. In fact, come now. Don’t wait until your dying breath. Your life on earth will be richer and full of love if you turn to Us now.

When The Unexpected Happens

My Child, sometimes unexpected things will occur in your life.  It may be as small as a friend cancelling on a dinner date or as large as a relationship ending,  job loss, unplanned pregnancy, unexpected relocation or health crisis.  Know that I am aware of the unexpected events in your life and that I have allowed them for a purpose.

Your response is to trust Me and submit to My plan, even when it is difficult to understand or endure.   I can see the whole picture.  You see only a part.

Sometimes what you are doing and pouring your energies into are good for a certain time in your life, but they are not what I want you to focus on now.  So, occasionally I will use these unexpected events to change your focus and direction.   Keep your eyes on Me, not on where you were or what you were doing.  If you are looking backwards at what you had, it will be difficult to move forward with Me.

Consider Mary.  All of her plans changed the day an angel appeared to her announcing that she had been chosen to be the mother of the Messiah.  She willingly accepted to be My servant and never looked back at her own plans for her life.  All of humanity has been blessed because of her obedience.

Now, consider Joseph.  He listened to My messenger and chose to do what would benefit Mary.  Likewise, you should consider what others may be experiencing during the unexpected events and act towards them in ways that will assist and serve them.  Reach out to others instead of only being inwardly focused during the unsettled times.

During these difficult times I will show Myself to you to encourage and instruct you.  I may show up in a dream, in the words of a friend, through My word the Bible, or in the still small voice inside of you.  Listen to My voice and follow Me.  Your path will be easier and My perfect plan for your life will unfold and be fulfilled.

I love you more than you could imagine and I know when your life takes an unexpected turn.  While these events may not be what you desire or planned for, they are in My plan for your life.  Just as  in Mary and Joseph’s life, the unexpected events will work together for good.  Trust me.  You’ll see.

Proverbs 3:5-6     Matthew 1:18-25     Luke 1:26-38     Romans 8:28
